The Philosophy

Our treatment style and programming is simple yet focused and aggressive. We understand the busy lifestyle associated with the tactical profession, and implement few, but powerful alterations to movement routines in order to achieve optimal results.

Our sessions are a combination of mobility and exercise. We utilize our hands, tools, or mobility drills to manually address any pain patterns or movement irregularities we see, then focus primarily on principles of physiology, strength, and conditioning to appropriately load the tissue. Our decision making comes from different categories:

1) Tissue healing: What kind of tissue is hurt? What stage of healing is the tissue in? Is it chronic or acute?

2) From the research: About 70% of injuries leading to time off are the preventable, non traumatic type with fatigue being one of the leading causes for those injuries. With this in mind, our sessions often incorporate slow tempo, full range movements, to specifically target the endurance tissues associated with failure under fatigue.

3) Tactical specific experience: Tactical professions have specific obstacles not seen in other professions. The individual events primarily require asymmetrical loading and positioning. Beyond that, while on shift they are dealing with lack of sleep, inconsistent nutrition, mental and physical trauma. These all affect healing, recovery, work, and life.

Taking all these things into consideration, we develop specific programs that are effective, efficient, and easily implemented into a regular workout or busy work day.

Our Founders

Andrew Anich, PT, DPT, CSCS

My name is Andy Anich. I’m a sports physical therapist as well as a certified strength and conditioning specialist. I have over 7 years of experience working with professional athletes, first responders, and the active general population. After receiving my doctorate degree, I focused my training and continued education in the field of exercise progression and kettlebell training to put a stronger focus into the missing aspect of rehab, which is developing the ability to manage heavy forces that are unevenly distributed to the body, similar to the mechanics seen in sports and the tactical workforce.

Alison Heartman, PT, DPT, CSCS

My name is Alison Heartman and I’m a sports physical therapist and certified strength coach. I specialize in treating outpatient orthopedic injuries for the general population of Sacramento as well as working one on one with tactical athletes, including Fire Rescue and Police. For rehabilitation, I believe in optimizing movement patterns then reinforcing that movement with stability and strength. My practice relies heavily on concepts from strength and conditioning, utilizing load and functional movement to fortify a person’s system against the demands of their life.
